G.S.R. (E).- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 55 of the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 (28 of 2005), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules to further amend the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006, namely:-
1. (1) These rules may be called the
Special Economic Zones (Second Amendment) Rules, 2007
   (2) They shall come into force on the date of their
publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006 (hereinafter referred to as the principal rules), in rule 5, in sub-rule (2), for clause (a) the following clause shall be substituted, namely:-
“(a) A Special Economic Zone for multi product shall have a contiguous area of one thousand hectares or more but not exceeding 5000 hectares;
Provided that in case a Special Economic Zone is proposed to be set up in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa or in a Union territory, the area shall be two hundred hectares or more:
Provided further that at least fifty per cent of the area shall be earmarked for developing the processing area.â€.
3. In the principal rules, in rule 18, in sub-rule (4), clause (g) shall be omitted.
4. In the Special Economic Zones (Second Amendment) Rules, 2007, notified vide number S.O. 393 (E) dated 16th March, 2007, in sub-rule (1) of rule 1, for the brackets and words “(Second Amendment)â€, the brackets and word “(Amendment)†shall be substituted.
